Context. A study conducted from 2021 to 2023 among Francophone families in the Canadian Prairies showed that more than half of them had been negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, post-pandemic health and well-being (HWB) needs, as well as the solutions proposed by families, remain poorly documented. This project aims to better understand these needs and to examine how well they align with the availability of French-language services in Alberta and Manitoba.

Objectives. To identify the priority H&W needs of Francophone families, the solutions they propose, the sociodemographic factors that influence these needs, and the alignment between these needs and the available French-language services.

Methodology. The project consists of three components: (1) secondary analyses of data collected from 287 Francophone families in Alberta and Manitoba; (2) a survey of French-language services for families in these two provinces; and (3) focus groups bringing together parents, health and education professionals, community organizations, and government partners to identify courses of action.

Expected Results. The study will provide a better understanding of the post-pandemic needs of Francophone families in minority-language contexts, assess the adequacy of French-language service provision, and guide actions aimed at improving access to services that meet the needs of these communities. It will also contribute to the training of students in research on French in minority-language contexts.
