About us

FORCES-Santé is a collaborative research network dedicated to the health of Francophone minority communities (FMCs) in Canada. Supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) (2024-2030), we analyze the offer, demand, and equity in terms of access to care to evaluate the performance of health systems with respect to Francophone minority communities (FMCs). We aim to inform concrete actions to enhance the quality, accessibility, and effectiveness of care, thereby advancing linguistic equity in health.

Our Goals

  • Support a communication network that promotes the collection, integration, public understanding, and dissemination of scientific and practical knowledge
  • Facilitate the interpretation and use of evidence in decision-making processes
  • Be an essential source of information on the health of Francophone minority communities (FMCs) in Canada

Linguistic equity in health care: a fundamental value

Francophones in minority situations have the right to receive quality, accessible, and safe healthcare in their language. Preferring to express oneself in French should never be a barrier to accessing and understanding healthcare or participating in decisions about one’s health.

      Mission

Bring together researchers and knowledge users to produce, mobilize, and disseminate evidence on the health of Francophone minority communities (FMCs) with the aim of improving equity, access, and performance in social and health services

      Vision

To be a national hub for collaborative research and knowledge mobilization on health in Francophone minority communities, recognized for the quality of its data, its influence on health decisions, and its commitment to linguistic equity

        Principles of collaborative research governance

        Equitable partnership

The contributions of each partner (researchers, practitioners, decision-makers, community members) are recognized and valued in the co-construction of knowledge.

        Shared decision-making

Priorities, methods, and actions are defined collectively, in a spirit of collaboration

        Transparency and accountability

Decisions and results are communicated clearly and in an accessible manner to all partners.

        Knowledge mobilization

The knowledge produced is disseminated and applied to support policies and practices.

This collaborative research and knowledge mobilization site was initially designed by the Chaire de recherche de l’Université d’Ottawa et de l’Institut du Savoir Montfort sur la santé des francophones de l’Ontario, under the direction of Louise Bouchard and Jacinthe Savard during their term (2019-2024).

Let's bring science and communities together to improve equity, access, and quality of care in French in all minority situations across Canada.
