Abstract

This project aims to acquire a sense of the uses and social acceptability of digital health technologies among Francophones living in minority communities in Ontario. In a context where digital health services (telemedicine, tele-monitoring, mobile applications, connected sensors) are booming, this research focuses on the social and cultural conditions that influence their acceptance. The main objective is to document current uses, identify factors of social acceptability, and propose avenues for the development of services tailored to the needs of Francophones.
The project was carried out in two phases: an online survey (year 1) combining a questionnaire and stories to be completed, followed by co-design workshops (year 2) with French-speaking participants living in Ontario. This participatory approach made it possible to map out acceptable uses and collectively imagine the organization and provision of digital health services for Francophones in Ontario.
The major contribution for Ontario’s Francophones lies in the production of unprecedented data on their digital health practices and perceptions. Responding to a need expressed by the Réseau des services de santé en français de l’Est de l’Ontario, the project aims to promote the development of culturally and linguistically appropriate technologies.

Let's bring science and communities together to improve equity, access, and quality of care in French in all minority situations across Canada.
